I read this book in high school, and this movie was like a staple to my friends and I, plus extended social circle in those times. Someone would always turn it on, everyone knew the quotes, while we rolled blunts, did lines, drank, a very odd dynamic. I loved the soundtrack too, esp. the scenes as they first start moving heroin. The book was dark and powerful, and so was the movie, but I think it is too over the top and dramatic to be as great as I once thought it was.

It's a sad tale... and what makes it sadder is seeing all these young cac addicts living like this right now. There's more of them running around running scams, begging money for drugs than any other time in this nation's history.

Marlon Wayans showed that he has acting chops as well.
yup thats normal everyday cac life in 2018. watch that show intervention for a glimpse as well

Damn after reading a couple of threads here on this movie, I'm envious I didnt feel (emote) anything pertaining to the movie. I watched this movie based off the most disturbing movies thread so I was watching expecting to see a horror or suspenseful movie but instead it was a tale of addiction so I guess that was my first mistake.

I also think maybe if I was a teenager when I saw this movie it might have left an impact but then I think of the movie Kids 1995 and having watched it for the first time a week ago It definitely left an impression on me. I'm not taking the rubber off no matter what.

One thing I found interesting is according to IMDB the director and writer of the book wanted to have younger actors but the producers felt that it wouldn't play well in theaters. I think if it had teenagers going through addiction in NYC I probably would have enjoyed it like basketball diaries. But anyways I dont have a desire to watch it again for now. Maybe I'll give it another watch over the holidays.

Sorry for typing so much :russ:

I still cannot believe Marlon Wayans was in this.

Connolly won an Oscar.
Leto won an Oscar.
Darren did The Wrestler etc.

This nikka showed one glimpse of how talented he was and was in :yeshrug:mode the rest of his career.

Marlon explained it on either Sway or Breakfast Club

There’s no money in those types of flicks and he doesn’t care about critical acclaim. He makes wayyyy more money and has more power producing his own movies.

somewhere between a pair of D cup tiddies
The relationship with him and his ma was the most soul crushing thing for me.
Every bit of the movie was just gut wrenching.
It's disturbing in the fact that this is life. Uncut, in it's darkest form.
I have a wonderful relationship with my ma and can remember times when I was younger that I lightweight schemed money for weed. Watching how this one went hurt me man :mjcry:
Aronofsky has a way of really pullin out the feels in his movies but he was in a whole other bag for this one.

marlon is dumb because he could’ve still been producing goofy ass Scary Movie type flicks and then getting the critical acclaim roles. That shyt has worked very well for a bunch of actors and with a couple of those roles under his belt, the meaty Hollywood roles would’ve come calling.

just wonder if he was worried about losing his comedy image and then looking/feeling like an outsider.
