H.R. 4176: LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act

This bill requires federal agencies that collect information through a survey that includes demographic data (where subjects self-report information or a proxy provides information about the subject or responds for all persons in a household) to review existing data sets to determine in which data sets information about sexual orientation and gender identity is not included, and to assess needed changes in survey methods related to asking questions on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Agencies that publish reports relying on survey demographic data must include information on sexual orientation and gender identity.

well, we're now at a point where it's not even a tangible thing. it's literally a decision you wake up and make at a random point in your life :dead: seems kind of hard to track

how the fukk do you run a census on a man deciding he's a woman?

I fukking hate agreeing with @the cac mamba but he's right. There's no inherent reason for LGBTQ+ (check that, just realized thread title is LGBTIQA+) to be considered demographic identity. Foucault points out that sexuality as identity didn't even exist until the 2nd half of the 19th century (according to Hannon, I've never actually read Foucault). The absurdity of turning sexual practice into identity has been highlighted by the constant proliferation in new potential identities that are out there and the ease with which people move between them. It would be more rational to go back to the time when sex was something you did rather than something you identified by.
