US-Haitian elected officials request 'urgent' meeting with Biden
nh-orange-logo-v3.png

A group of more than 200 current and former Haitian-American elected officials are reaching out to the Biden administration and requesting an “urgent” meeting to discuss U.S. policy toward the Caribbean nation in the wake of the assassination of the country’s president.

In a letter sent Friday to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and obtained by The Hill, the National Haitian-American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON) requests a briefing on the administration’s approach to Haiti amid the country's political turmoil, ongoing plague of gang violence and struggle against COVID-19.

The group said they are “weary and frustrated” over the lack of engagement from the Biden administration on the issue, despite an established relationship addressing the president’s decision in May to extend for 18 months Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians residing in the U.S.

@loyola llothta

I have a couple questions. Why would someone bring back an army then arm gangs ?

Are these not beneficial for the country ?

Are these not beneficial ? Mind you this has not be touched in 40 years by these thievings ass government.

as far as I am concerned give Martine Moise presidency or even Moise Jean-Charles (he is an idiot but I believe he is truly for the Haitian people). :hubie:. I dont trust any other people to not be corrupt.

@Mirin4rmfar why is it odd that a President can be corrupt, do nice things to gain the people's support, and do terrible things to people who challenge the government? It's not like it hasn't been done before.

But he hasn't done any of this. All the talks of him being a dictator were unwarrented. He had to rule by decree not because he wanted a dictatorship but because a lot of these politicians are brought and their sole purpose is to him because they are taking orders from rich guy at the top telling them to block this guy from doing his job. He asked them plenty of time to come to the table. He did not kill not one of them.

Example, $200 million dollar a year electricity contract he cut, the senators/ etc. were blocking him from cutting this contract. Mind you the metro area was getting four hours of electricity and outside of the capital were barely getting nothing. They are too corrupt. Same thing with Asphalt contract, they had contracts were they were paying four times the price, he was in the process of building 4-5 asphalt plants. Haiti is country getting killed by corruption and monopoly.

These elites were supporting him because they wanted a puppet early but when they found out he wasn't. They turned against him and used the media to manipulate Haitian people to rally against hi,. He is by far the best president Haiti has ever had. He was building things that would have led to the development of the country.

I spoke to my mom a lot of People in Haiti are realizing this. These next elections are crucial.

You talk of politicians not getting killed. They are politicians, there is supposed to be opposition in politics. The part you bolded wasn't referring to them, but to the people. With that said.

The journalists and protesters who were getting killed? He had absolutely nothing to do with that? The mercs that were brought in? He had absolutely nothing to do with that? How the Petrocaribe scandal evolved and was prosecuted? He had nothing to do with that?

I'm genuinely asking.

A former top government prosecutor who was once forced to flee Haiti for Miami in fear for his life is dead.

Claudy Gassant was found dead Saturday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic where he recently had been living. The discovery came on the same day Gassant was expected to be in South Florida for a conference on Haiti’s widening insecurity. His death was described as suspicious.

Smith Augustin, Haiti’s ambassador to the neighboring country, said Gassant’s death was confirmed by the National Department of Investigations (DNI).

“Police are in the house investigating; they are trying to see if it was suicide or a homicide,” Augustin told the Miami Herald

Gave people the heads up about that member for years here. He's part of the YTer follower element that spreads ignorance. He doesn't know what he's talking about, and when corrected/debunked he ducks owning up to it.

I’m used to the type.

Ive had both Lavalas and PHTK fanatics who got into heated arguments with me defending their party while attacking the other kamikaze style. If you read my old post in here you’ll see the example I gave that happened at my cousins house where a PHTK apologist defending Jovenel damn near wanted to fight me inside my cousin’s home to the point she had to come escort me out the room. All tis because i questioned something he said that did not make sense.

Same behavior with Lavalas fanatics and lord knows my family is full of those too.

Among Haitians you have those that are fanatics of their party and will regurgitate anything they hear from the propaganda machine. They mix enough truth to lure you in and pad it up with nonsense. To them if you’re not in agreement with them you’re a duvalieriste. If you question them you’re a "sousou pou blan" which is the equivalent of a c00n.
There is a reason why I mostly avoid arguing with cats like that even tho i sometimes allow myself to be drawn in. They mean well because in the end we all want a better Haiti because we all wanna go back home. I know that’s what I want. :hubie: But how we go about freeing Haiti from the external forces and debunking the inside men causing the internal struggles within the country is another fight in itself
