Report: Silva considering moving to welterweight

I'm gonna go ahead and predict that if this fight ever does happen at 170, Anderson Silva is gonna get his ass handed to him. The weight cut will hurt his stamina, it will definitely hurt his power and quickness, and he has shown that the one kind of fighter that gives him trouble is wrestlers. GSP will take him down and keep him down.

It might even end up being a boring fight.

And I say all this as a fan of Anderson Silva. He's maybe the greatest of all time, but at 170, I don't think he will be nearly as strong. I'd actually like his chances better at 205 against Jones.

The him and Jones being friends thing is whatever to me I understand the mutual respect but it really comes off like a convenient way to avoid each other, they've both made their divisions seem almost amateur under them. Style wise Jones Silva is more intriguing Silva's striking vs Jones control



Although if Silva does cut to 170 to fight I'd bet on GSP, it could be a very uneventful fight because GSP is way too smart to stand with him for any length of time and he's highly unlikely to get submitted.

The thing about that GSP fight is that he's booked up until the end of next year. He has the fight with Condit, and then he still wants Diaz. And Silva isn't getting any younger...so to answer your question...Gustafsson? (sp) Not to mention 185 has a lot of new prospects for Silva to destroy.

Silva will probably fight at least one or two fights at WW before he goes against GSP. It won't be right away.

I'm actually one of the few ppl on this website that doesn't hate GSP but this is pathetic.

A damn-near 40 yr. old man who walks around at about 215 and is in shape to fight at about 190-200 has to cut around 20 more lbs. to potentially fight a guy who is much younger and could easily fight said old man at a 180 lb. catchweight that would allow GSP to potentially fight with more energy b/c he'd be cutting 10 lbs. less?
