Yes it definetly created a lane for the mediocre singers to rack up hits (Pebbles/Bobby Brown etc )but NJS also had it's fair share of great singers who either couldnt get it poppin too.
I knew someone would say this I somewhat agree but the music was good at least now not so much lol.
It’s not that New Jack Swing was garbage music (at least the good stuff, Milli Vanilli was able eat in the late ‘80s).
The NJS era produced some classics, but the real problem though is trying to blend R&B and Hip Hop which ends up b*stardizing both genres. That shyt started with NJS and and carried into the ‘90s with Bad Boy, Montell Jordan, Adina Howard, etc..
By the early 2000s, you had rappers like Nelly and Ja Rule “singing” their own hooks and R&B singers like Jagged Edge doing that sing-rapping bullshyt.

This shyt ain’t R&B or Hip Hop. It’s some kind of homogenized mishmash. And this shyt pre-dates autotune.
