mane.....when that song dropped it felt like the Second Coming of Christ.....

it just felt sooo good to hear a raw NAS track that reminded you of the early ILLMATIC days.....

it was surreal. .. :ohlawd:

what did it for me was the VIDEO...

seeing Premier in the opening scene saying.....

"NAS u ready??" :ld:

right then I realized....

"Oh this gone be sooo good" :noah:

and his wordplay was soo in point as usual......

the alliteration. .the effortless casual flow..

I could just cry quoting these lyrics :sadbron:

Nas is like.." Earth Wind & Fire, rims and tires

Bulletproof glass, inside is the realest driver

Y'all talking about Jay's Primo tracks but IMO they can't ever touch " I Gave You Power". The concept, beat and storytelling. Whoa . tell me u don't agree

IMO, that's the best song Premo's ever produced for the reasons you gave. Still, "Nas Is Like" is up there though. I think Premo gave more heat to Nas than he did Jay.

I think for me, being an out and out DJ Premier stan I always concentrated on the beat too much.

I can just beat box the drum like it was nothing. At the beginning of the track they came in so hard and clean, then birds chirping put my mind in the state of being in a village somewhere in Asia, on a wooden stilt house over a river and the over-arching trees freeing themselves of these singing birds.

Then the hard drums come back in. Then the "Nas is.." scratch comes in and the infamous bars "Freedom of jail, clips inserted..." are revealed to my ears and then I'm taken away from my Asian fantasy and put firmly back in the streets of Queens Bridge, NYC.

This track to me is immovable in regards to the best hip-hop track.

That's what being a great producer is all about: being able to stimulate imagination/feeling.
It's not about what machine you use and new kits and how clean is your mix. It's about the vision.

I hear you but the rhyme hits in the middle (first snare of each bar) instead of the end (second snare). The end bars may not rhyme yet there is a rhythm in the flow.

can't be more agree with you. that's whats I wanted to saying. Theses bars are not rhyming properly but nas keep a certain rhythm that make the flow work. that's art

And then when you seen the album cover to "I am.."

:ohhh:

I dont think the overall hype was met when the album actually dropped tho. Source gave it 4 1/2 mics but it was more like 4.
