the big three (Judaism, Islam and Christianity) have the same base but differ in there belief. There base is Judaism but while modern Jews are still waiting for the messiah Christians believe he came already in the form of Jesus Christ. Now with Islam they believe the Jews got the original message but god sent down another angel and told Mohammad the rest of the truth and there you go.

i agree that religion does a lot of bad. but the negatives that we see on earth as a result of religion FAR outweigh the positives. i made a thread on that and no one would touch it
