Everyone waiting for Muddy Waters 2...this album was Muddy Waters 2 and it was slept on. This is one of those albums were u dont skip tracks u let the whole thing ride.

This was the Wayne/TI/Kanye ringtone era and Redman wasnt on everyones radar like in the 90's. But it didnt matter..... This was also when people like LL and The Roots manager was blaming Jay Z for not promoting other Def Jam artists correctly. No shade at Jay Z but Kingdome Come was weak and they were playing Jay Z heavy on NY hip hop stations. Redman used to get heavy airplay on Hot 97 in the 90's......I dont remember any of the Redman singles from this album being played on Hot 97 or Power 105 but Jay Z was getting constant rotation. Redman had the better album but Jay Z got the better promotion.

I remember the record shop on Simpson had the album out 2 weeks before it was supposed to drop. I was like :ohhh::gladbron: when I saw it and payed the 15 bucks right then and there. I wasnt expecting much cuz Malpractice was eh! but this album made up for it 10 fold

I also think one of the contributing downsides to why this album was slept on was because it was pushed back for years. Gilla House Check dropped in 03. When he did the video for Smack he says 05 by the time the album dropped it was 07:francis:

The second single was dope and classic Redman...BET was playing it but Hot 97/Power 105 wasn't :snoop:

Videos that I never knew existed till they popped up on Youtube.

OK I was wrong....This album has 1 skippable and its this song. I dont know why he made a video for the weakest song on the album.

In conclusion, Red Gone Wild was supposed to be a big moment for Redman and I still say someone dropped the ball on the promotion.....his next album Reggie would go down as his worst effort. And that Red and Meth Blackout 2 was forgettable. Now the Mudface album was actually dope....But absolutly no one was talking about it. Mudface was quality Redman but we were dead smack in the mumble mouth rap era and no one was paying attention like that excpet the hardcore Redman fans. But I say Red Gone Wild was Redmans greatest slept on effort.

revisiting this album now because of this thread. i remember thinking it was decent but i really cant remember connecting with any Redman albums too deep after Malpractice...that one kinda messed everything up for awhile for me.

Dope album.

But not worthy of being a successor to Muddy Waters.

I'm actually looking forward to MW2, if it comes out. The one or two snippets I've heard sound encouraging.

I don't know about all that.

U know why u dont consider it a classic? because usually that title goes to something that has a large consensus...Like Cuban Linx or Doggystyle. If the crowd dont call it that most people find i hard calling it that as well. But the album has like 1 skippable. Its 90's Redman. Its better then Docs Da Name...Better then Malpractice. If this album came out in 98 instead of Docs Da Name we'd be saying he has the best tetralogy( 4 album sequence)

Come on...it's not nearly as good as Doc's Da Name.

You are surprised that one of the biggest commercial superstars album gets more promo in a city in which he sells out arenas in a second than a dude like Redman? AG sold half of what BP3 and KC sold, had nothing to do with quality, it was hits and anticipation. Most of Jays marketing comes from his own endorsements too not labels.

And I don't recall Redman or Roots being mad, the Roots were Jays band at his shows during the time.

LL was mad, went gold under Jay and never had a song chart again, acting like it was Jay-z he was just done and mad that a dude who used to look up to him snatched his label, goat title and became his boss.

like Meth's 4:21, Red Gone Wild was better than expected so it prolly got gassed a little more than it deserved.
i felt it was just ok

:yeshrug:

also...to be fair i hadn't long heard those first three Redman albums around that time
so i might've been turning my nose up a bit at newer stuff.
