what are some good/interesting found footage movies?? :lupe:

here is a top 20 list compiled from internet--
i don't agree with it per se :ld:
offered just to get discussion started
(have not seen all of them myself)
  1. Paranormal Activity
  2. The Blair Witch Project
  3. [REC]
  4. Cloverfield
  5. Chronicle
  6. Grave Encounters
  7. Paranormal Activity 2
  8. Paranormal Activity 3
  9. Cannibal Holocaust
  10. Paranormal Activity 4
  11. V/H/S
  12. [REC2]
  13. The Last Exorcism
  14. Diary of the Dead
  15. Quarantine
  16. Lake Mungo
  17. Megan Is Missing
  18. The Tunnel
  19. Apollo 18
  20. The Bay
out of this list, i probably like [rec] the best- it kept me going
cannibal holocaust had a couple of scenes but was pretty corny
paranormal activities have been discussed to death
as well as blair witch

let me mention a couple of lesser known ones (#18 and #20)
The Tunnel had a more logical premise - why do people always keep filming?
An investigation into a government cover-up leads to a network of abandoned train tunnels deep beneath the heart of Sydney. As a journalist and her crew hunt for the story it quickly becomes clear the story is hunting them.

i struggled to finish The Bay - tedious
Chaos breaks out in a small Maryland town after an ecological disaster occurs.

not on the list is Urban Explorer a/k/a The Depraved - i think it should be amongst top 20 (and it has girl from fast & furious tokyo drift)
Anxious to explore the mysterious hidden world under metropolitan Berlin, an international group of four urban explorers hires a local guide, Kris, who leads them into the maze of escape tunnels and subterranean fortifications under the city.

and i just saw another called Severed Footage - not very original but well-executed
Twelve severed feet in running shoes found on the shores of Western Canada have baffled Police. A videotape is leaked anonymously from the authorities. This paranormal thriller may solve the mystery of the severed feet.

does anyone else like found footage movies??
and any recommendations which to watch and which to avoid?? :mjpls:

I'm struggling getting through Chronicle right now. I'm not a fan of found footage films, but since it's Josh Trank's only film as a director and he's directing the F4 movie, I need to see it.

Of the list you posted which have you seen?

from memory, i believe i have seen 12 of them

  • Paranormal Activity
  • The Blair Witch Project
  • [REC]
  • Cloverfield
  • Chronicle
  • Paranormal Activity 2
  • Cannibal Holocaust
  • Paranormal Activity 4
  • [REC2]
  • Quarantine
  • The Tunnel
  • The Bay

add 616: Paranormal Incident to the list
it wasn't as bad as imdb says but still way too corny with the comic relief
not recommended

i don't know exactly why i like found footage movies :ld:
(1) they are short- sometimes not in the mood for long 2+ hr dramas
(2) unknown actors- helps to keep disbelief going and not be distracted
(3) low budget- chance to be creative or take risks, not that most do anything with the opportunity:beli:
i agree that a lot of them suck :wow:

Afflicted was very good...would be interesting to see those dudes do another found footage movie with a bigger budget...

Probably the best vampire movie I seen in the last 5 years...

The shootout scene in that dudes apartment completely blew me away

Evidence is really good to...the first 30 minutes are pretty cheesy and lame...but after they find that dude dead in the woods it picks up...

It's...coherently incoherent though...so if you not into that type of movie you probably won't like it
