Much like the movie, I do think we have the capability for our civilized society to eat itself, I don't think more than a few mentally ill incels would even partake unless something became a catalyst to do so.

The whole concept of the purge baffled the hell out of me. Not just the homicidal maniac aspect, but most people don't have the desire to commit crimes out of convenience anyway. Most I'd probably do is drive a stolen Uhaul through costco and raid that bytch

The TV show explained this to a degree. The ruling elite had been funding initiatives to promote uneasiness and decay in America. High unemployment, inflation on goods, purposely cutting back on police presence in high crime areas, even cutting hospital funding. The latter lead to most homeless people being former mentally ill patients. Throw in decades of mass propaganda and a mini coup to "save" America and you have a population of people primed to take their frustrations out on their neighbors. The elites even flipped the schools.....kids who showed antiauthoritarian tendencies were kicked out for bs reasons put on behavior pills to address non existent mental illnesses. Schools had wrtie ups on every student.


Basically the real world white supremacist acceleration plan minus the focus on race specifically. And alot of this is what Trump's Reich is trying to implement.

Was on Hulu, peeped during the pandemic. The premise sounds better than its execution though. It was a USA show so it never really went "there".

S2 really got into how the purge is just a massive conspiracy plot from the start to remake the country from the ground up. The powers that be had an idea to create and weaponize this version of America's mental illness. Extreme violence as a mental illness...that spreads like a mind virus. To the point this new government has lost control of the killings. The Feds start secretly killing ppl to hide the fact that ppl are killing people off holiday.


Not many ppl really understaood why the "Forever Purge" film was a thing because ot came out of nowhere and the movies didn't explain shyt.......but the show all but points to how the crazies will eventually start running the asylum.

So much wasted potential. It really shows what fascist acceleration looks like. There are so many unintentional real world parallels on this show the writers just were smart enough to dig into or were force to gloss over for more hack and slash media.
