My guilty pleasure is my commitment to this show. But he is making it hard for me, with his unrelenting attack on GOD and religion. Too often, it is completely uncalled for, irrelevant and off-putting, like a coli poster. I felt bad for the girl who played Blossom, when he said that she is obviously intelligent (she's a neuroscientist), so why does she believe in GOD? She was clearly taken aback. And last night with his unabashed support of Israel, I almost turned him off for good. He promoted the bigotry/racism of Jewish intelligence over another group of people (Muslims, which are people of all races and ethnicities, who adhere to a religion). He justified the murder of Palestinians and placed the blame on the innocent people. And finally he did so to a panel of all Jewish people! If he had someone with a bit of knowledge on the subject (of Israel or GOD), he would be thoroughly embarrassed.

His saving grace is in his criticism of irrational Republicans, and his special guests and their eye-opening stories. Had he not introduced me to Rev Dr. William Barber II and Baratunde Thurston, and the like, I would have turned him off long ago.

religion deserves to, and needs to be, attacked. its a pure bane to humanity in 2014

Organized religion and spirituality are not one in the same.

Maher - like most atheists - crosses the line and assumes that if you believe in God (or any type of higher power resembling God) then you must be an idiot.

there have been hundreds of religions, which can't all be true, and even if one is true then the fighting and bigotry that religion causes is an absolute bane to society

its fine to claim some vague bullshyt like spirituality (which i feel is just a subtle insecure reaction to being able to see that religions are bullshyt but afraid to let go of the "god overseer" feeling), but keep it to yourself. spirituality doesnt pervade society like religions do, so :yeshrug:

but seriously breh, what the fukk is "spirituality":what:

I would say that spirituality is the belief in something beyond the physical. That there's more to the world than meets the eye... whatever that may be. It only becomes a problem when one person tries to impose those beliefs onto others, hence religion. Especially since most religions just try and pass off mythology like it's history.

For the record I used to be an atheist. So I know what it's like to be on both sides of the fence. I stopped believing in God at around age 15 and didn't start believing again until I was about 25-26. So I fully understand the "logic" and "reasoning" that goes with being an atheist. I was the same as you were and I used to pride myself on my ability to be a free thinker. I even took a bible as literature course in college and I would get into debates with various religious believers like it was an everyday thing.

I didn't know then just how ignorant I really was.

Honestly it was a lot of things. It occurred in a way that would only make sense to me and no one else. So to try and put it in a way that you would fully understand would be kinda difficult for me. You either gotta feel it or you don't feel it. Lol it's like the force.

It's not the type of feeling you could put into words. Just as I believe God's true name couldn't be spoken by human tongue... (or force, or nature, or whatever the fukk is behind this universe). It's a feeling, not a word. It's BEYOND words.

The fact that he hates religion and supports Israel shows how he's really cut since their religion is the basis for the country even existing
