“Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” is ending its run on HBO after 29 years

Was it Gumbel’s call or David Zaslav?

I remember Andrea Kramer interviewing Kobe. I remember when they interviewed Mike Webster? Some football player who had CTE. It was sad,the guy told the interviewer to come back because he couldnt remember anything.

Yupp. Also didn't HBO stop making Sports documentaries as well?

I don't know.

What's the last HBO sports documentary they did?
I'm sure they did one on Magic and Bird.
And Magic and Isiah too. But those have to be several years old.

The thing is I may be confusing some HBO docs with PBS docs. Like the Muhammad Ali ones.

They just had documentaries on De La Hoya and Bishop Sycamore.

It lost a lot of promotion because...well, they seemingly didn't promote it much in recent years.

But also, since people aren't watching HBO for boxing anymore, and since HBO shows have been largely lackluster since Game of Thrones ended, you just don't spend as much time watching HBO to notice their sports programming.

Frankly with this SAG strike, I forgot John Oliver was even alive.
The Last of Us - huge hit both in viewership and critical acclaim

House of the Dragon - great numbers despite the awful last 3 seasons of original GoT

Succession - one of the best HBO shows of all time

Euphoria - has gen-z on lock

Gilded Age - has old broads on lock

The White Lotus - award winning, gets love on social media

Barry - another one of the best HBO shows of all time

But Zaslav/Discovery is working very hard to completely ruin HBO :francis:

I wasnt a die hard fan or anything but it was something cool to check at the end of the month to see if they covered something I was interested in. I'm wondering why he didnt pass the rock to somebody else and stay on as a producer or do nothing and keep collecting them checks as I am guessing he owns it.

I just thought of an old story I think they aired where a dumbass fan ran on the field in a football game and got hit sticked so hard it fukked one of his eyes up and he was blind in that eye and it looked all fukked up in the interview.
