When it is released and (say) it's bad movie people will immediately use it's R rating as an defense much like with expendables. "Oh you are a 2000 baby" "you are soft that's why you didn't like it" missing the fact that it was just a shyt movie all on its own. My point is why do the 2 things need to be mutually exclusive? Can 1 not want more R rated comic book movies but not be a fan of deadpool?

I mean..if you don't like it, you don't like it breh. But it's already looking at a 55 million opening and that could go up since we're two weeks out. So it's going to be a financial success. But if you don't like it, if it's not to your liking, I don't think that's a bad thing per say because Deadpool isn't for everybody. He's definitely an acquired taste

If those projections are accurate hey I am glad they are going to be a lot of happy people. The premise of my question was the ramifications if it flopped, why would the reaction be "oh the world ain't ready for a comic book movie rated R" completely sidestepping the reality the movie itself might've been shyt ie kickass 2

Ah..well based on the projections, unless they're completely wrong, i guess the question is moot. And no one could use that "the world isn't ready argument" because we've already had kick ass and last year in the same release window we had kingsmen which was more successful than kick ass

Plus everyone seems to forget that BLade of all movies started this comic book shyt off. That's right, a gotdamn R-rated comic book movie with a black man no less at the helm, is what kicked comic book movies into gear in the damn first place. You'd think with that, they'd know from jump that R rated joints can work. But I know and I'm sure the exes and all that know it's more about how much MORE money can be made at the PG-13 rating level, obviously.

I wouldn't say it kicked it into high gear but it definitely kick started the engine. X men revved it and then spider man put it into overdrive. But blade was the one that showed they can still be successful after no one wanted to touch them after batman and robin. And in reality I think Guillermo doing blade 2 did a lot for the genre and more than people realize

if Ryan Reynolds manage to fukk this up he needs to be tarred and feathered :demonic:, at the very least it will do antman numbers

Maybe not that much. It's still rated R so it can't get quite the same level of audience. But it also wasn't as expensive as ant man, which costs 150 mil. Deadpool is probably half of that or a bit more.

I dunno, people took their kids to see Ant-man. This isn't for that demo. I think they will have similar openings but I'd be surprised if it did Ant-man numbers total.
