5. If it weren't for the popularity of Murda Inc, she would have been lost in the crowd.

Good point. Kinda fukked up when you look back on it now.
I know... :( The only reason that I knew the full extent of how fukked up that was is off a documentary that I was watching recently. a lot of JLo's songs from Murda Inc were originally meant for Ashanti, they even kept Ashanti's vocals on some songs to mesh with JLo, in order to make JLo's voice sound stronger. Dub moves.

Outside of I’m real jlo doesn’t have any hit songs that sound like Ashanti. Jlo was a multiplatinum selling artist years before Ashanti and years after Ashanti
Those were songs meant for Ashanti :mindblown:. Every JLo song with Murda Inc had Ashanti on the vocals first or they layered Ashanti's voice under JLO's vocals. You're a WHOLE LIE. JLo just had the bigger name recognition because of Selena and her ability to do the cac crossover. Stop! Irv even said it himself, that JLo dubbed him when she made it into cac circles, that they took songs specifically made for Ashanti and gave to JLo to give the label a stronger push meanwhile JLo was just using them bc she saw how Murda Inc was poppin at the time, JLo was playing both sides. She knew the Bronx was behind her and she worked that into the equation.

First time I heard I'm Real I swore that was Ashanti.

JLo stole most of her discography off other singers, mainly Ashanti. JLo started having real hits to her claim when she didn't the Latin crossover music and that techno pop b.s. JLo knows how to harmonize but that's about it - most of her songs were sung by other lesser known musical artists.
JLo went from hood songs then crossed over to other categories in order to become popular and you think that's not by design-

She gets a 6.5 but I’ll bump her up to a generous 6.8 because her first two albums are classics, her chemistry with Ja Rule was one of the BEST Hip Hop n R&B duos in the last 20 years, and to this day she’s still BAD asf :whew:

I’m not about to keep defending jlo cause I personally think she’s a talentless hack who benefited from privilege and playing both sides. I would personally rank her a 2

All I’m saying is that she had a long fruitful career that would’ve existed with or without Ashanti

I agree by 99 nothing could have stoped the jlo train.

Largely Unknown fact : Ashanti and Fabolous originally recorded So Into You together first and the version that climbed the charts was Ashanti's.

But when Fab tried to shoot the video, Ashanti was unavailable so they got Tamia to record a version and it replaced Ashanti's. Whenever the music video was played on tv, it was Tamia's. So both versions were being played at the same time and most couldn't tell.

I posted Ashanti's version in the op.

Damn, it seems like Ashanti just had too much success at once. If it was spread out a little more she'd be a legend with the same number of hits.
