As a proud Jamaican man I honestly would not rank Ja cuisine exceptionally highly, as the bulk of our dishes can be simply summed up as: Rice n peas with a meat and a vegetable, hard food(plantain/yam/banana), and then throw in either the words curry, jerk, or stew. And that’s it.
The only major exception dishes, ackee & saltfish, and escovitch fish, aren’t enough to boost our cuisine head and shoulders above others.
Well except “American” food..Ja cuisine is definitely better than that
