10/10 and that’s just being generous. London is truly my most favorite city in the world and I’ve always been fascinated with everything about it.
I studied abroad in that city back in the summer of 2017 for a total of four weeks. I stayed at the Chapter student accommodation hotel off of Pentonville Rd at least 7 mins up the street from the iconic Kings Cross Station. It would always be something going on in this area, always busy even on the weekends. It would be a weekly farmers market outside KC Station for the evening rush hour crowd and people would be chillin and scoping out the best produce, cheese, wine, meats, housewares, etc. they could find. S/O to the McDonalds across the street and that chicken box spot near my hotel for holding a nikka down during my many drunk escapades and lengthy online research projects in this GOAT ass city
My classroom site was at CIEE London HQ in Russell Square near the University of London and the British Museum. I would often either walk there for 13 to 14 mins or catch the Tube and arrive where I needed to be in less than 7 mins tops.
The Tube is without question THE BEST subway I’ve ever ridden on. It’s damn near perfectly clean, very modern, very organized, never a dull moment, got A/C, and best of all, it’s ALWAYS ON TIME even on the weekends!!!
The buses were quite efficient as well. Not all buses in London are the famous double deckers, you got regular sized buses and the “accordion” buses too. I rode the top deck of a double decker bus a couple of times and it’s a pretty nice view up top. Just make sure you hold on to the railing real tight leading upstairs while the bus is moving and be warned that the top deck can be mad sketchy at night on some double deckers.
Camden Market was my go-to spot for lunch and sometimes dinner after my class got over. One of my most favorite spots in LDN, it would remind you of the NYC’s Lower East Side with a crazy mixture of an alternative/artsy/bohemian atmosphere with the “clean and pristine” yuppie presence significantly visible. Would always have a good time here, especially with the good ass food be it French, Malaysian, Vietnamese, American, Colombian, etc. I got a navy blue and white varsity jacket at a reasonably bargained price of £35 here and I used to kick it with an old Cameroonian woman, her old Cac husband, their son, and a friend of theirs at the woman’s African boutique vendor store...But a number of dashikis and necklaces from her and had some very interesting and pleasant conversations with all of them, all of them were hella Pro-Black especially the son and their friend. I really miss that sweet old lady, I hope she still has a store there.
The Edgeware Rd area was always fun to explore with all the Arabic restaurants, small markets, grocery stores, hookah lounges, gelato shops, etc. in abundance. I forgot the name of this Lebanese place somewhere in North London but it was quite possibly the best grilled platter I’ve ever tasted so far in my life.
I would love to drop more really good shyt for you but I’m getting mad tired. I promise to share the remainder of my story when I wake up. Til then
