Also I'm literally floored that thriller, arguably his biggest song, was not a number 1 hit. Wtf was these nikkas on? :what:
My theory is that by the time it was released as a single, so many people had the album that it affected buying the single. Just an unscientific guess.

Oh, and he's an 11 out of 10. My second favorite artist all time.

i had a similar thought

but it was more like how black music/culture was able to produce a michael jackson
He was definitely a once in a lifetime talent. I wonder if that thought ever crossed his mind. Like just chilling sitting in his ranch and looking back over his life and thinking damn, there will never be another nikka like me for the rest of human existence.

Raised in a tough environment. Poor family. Tough father. All those elements crafted his soul. The same soul we heard poured out over his music. Literally one of a kind.

My great uncle grew up in the same neighborhood as the jacksons. He said Gary was no joke in the late 50s and 60s. It was so bad, my great grandfather sent him down south to live with his mom (my granny).

I asked him if he knew the jacksons and he said not the younger siblings (Michael, Marlon & jermaine). But he was cool with Jackie and tito. I think he said he and Jackie played baseball together. I asked him one time if he ever saw Joe Jackson chasing Michael around the yard tryna whoop him like the movie showed :pachaha:

He said nah but he also didn't think Joe was abusive at all like MJ and the media portrayed him to be. He said every father was tough on his sons back then because if you weren't, they would get into the gang/drug life which was prevalent in Gary at the time. Lots of cool stories from him.

He recorded a song they wrote called “Slave to the Rhythm” back in ‘89 but it wasn’t released until 2014:

Yo I was thinking bout this part of MJs career the other day that it just hit me- MJ always gets this label of being androgynous or feminine but wasn't nothing feminine bout Mike. He had a soft voice but he wasn't on no gay shyt, dressed like a man. So where that label come from? Its bullshyt.

I think it was moreso because of the rumors surrounding him. They was saying all kinds of shyt. I remember them saying he cut off his balls to get his voice to remain high pitched. Then when he got all the surgery and became pale colored, he did look like a white woman. Add on the soft voice and sensitive personality and that's where you get it.

I remember the breakfast club interview with Stephanie Mills. She said Mike was definitely not feminine or gay. I think she took his virginity but that's just me. No chatty patty shyt:hubie:
