Watching this show made me appreciate the value of good sound design in fight scenes. There's no gore or anything that brutal looking in Casshern Sins, but the blows sound so convincing that it feels like the person getting hit is exploding. Could close your eyes and get a good idea for the flow of a fight. The animation and art design is amazing on top of that. really well produced anime.
The story is very slow and cryptic up until the end. Uses a lot of heavy handed dystopian themes like survival of the fittest, one lone person trying to find purpose in a world without one, figuring out what caused the world to become ruined, a journey throughout a wasteland meeting various communities along the way. The episodes start with an intro that reveals a part of Casshern past with a new segment added until it's eventually all shown fully. I was engaged in the mystery of it all and it absolutely delivers in the end, but I understand others getting bored and turning it off midway through
There's one scene that I come back to a lot. It's when Casshern is fighting an army of robots by himself as per usual, except this time with a performance in the background that emphasizes his isolation. When I think of Casshern it's usually this clip that comes to mind
overall I'd give it a 10. Looks great, sounds great, fights are great, and the story is great if you're into dystopian ideas. Sticking around until the end is worth it. That said, I don't feel a desire to watch this again and get depressed. It's as far as can be from a feel good story similar to Texhnolyze.
