Gave it a 5 out of respect

Art style is lame as fukk. Feels like the worst of both worlds in between cartoony and more serious.

This show gets propped up by Japan loving it but outside of Japan i feel most people dont really fukk with it.

You can tell of the strength of these votes whio watches the anime and who reads the manga. OP has been the best shounen for a good part of a decade. It does entice the casual with pointless hype battles. Hence its lower popularity in the West. As people expect the same Goku/DBZ formula. OP needs your emotional investment to feel the weight of incidents. Pound for Pound the only show capable of going with it is HxH.

The anime is horrible but the manga is great. I believe anyone voting this as a great anime are just doing it based on the manga. The anime is borderline unwatchable. I gave it a 5 just to respect the manga.

They stretch every episode as thin as possible by panning and zooming through every other shot. Then they show close up face reaction shots of every character in a scene whenever something even remotely interesting happens. To top it off the vast majority of interesting moment are split across episodes and used as cliffhangers. So you don't get to experience the full gravitas of a moment in a single episode. Usually an anime episode will use two chapters of a manga. With one piece during the last few arcs they have been using less than one manga chapter per episode. You have to watch that shyt on 2x to make in bearable. There is even a site that takes the anime and removes all the bullshyt called One Pace that is very popular at the moment. It takes 100 anime episodes and reduces them to like 45.

Why is this show so long?

And it can’t compete with DBZ in the states because the characters aren’t cool like DBZ.

DBZ is loved universally, only real anime heads don’t like DBZ.

I've never watched this show but I remember years ago with that 4kids version was the first shyt I ever saw and that shyt completely turned me off of the show. Add to the wack ass artstyle as well I never got into it. At times I want to watch the shyt but its way too much to catch up on. shyt is like 800+ episodes.

Unfortunately, they release one episode per chapter, and as an earlier poster stated this isn't enough content to make for engaging episodes. At this point I only watch the anime after they've gone over the fights I want to see animated. Other than that it takes too lkng.
Still rated it 10 off the manga alone

Damn what’s so good about the manga?

Do you like it better than DBZ?

I can’t get into anime’s like that, it came out once I got older and didn’t want to watch anime anymore, and then it’s like 1000 episodes so it’s like once you hear it’s good, there’s too many episodes to catch up with.

They are two different beasts. DBZ appeals to my inner child that wants to see new powerups and fights all the damn time. DBZ falls very flat on storytelling though, and thats where OP shines. It has great fights as well. If DBZ were to incorporate some commonsense story telling, it could be the definitive GOAT..but for now the plot is borderline trash imo. Specifically due to the fact that most of the characters are worthless in the grand scheme of things

Yeah right now super is garbage story wise, is one piece story really that good? All I remember is that he wants to be a pirate king.

That’s another reason why I think DBZ did so well in the us, it’s focused on power ups and fighting, it’s cool, something people who don’t watch anime can relate to.

I do wonder what would make DBZ’s story better to the masses because I just love it the way it is.

I’m wondering what kind of story and drama would they want from that show to make the story better and would that even work with an anime like Z?
