thebookmachinespAfter having a terrible recording contract & experience being signed to Select records in 1987 my producer Howie Tee brought me to MCA where I was introduced to a newly hired Puffy & the President Of Uptown Andre Harrell. It was that day that I became a ghostwriter. Years later Uptown folded and the album I’d been recording was shelved and the Trackmasters were never paid. Good old Steve Stoute who managed them retrieved the songs and played them for none other than LL Cool J. Tone who was one of two producers that made up the Trackmasters gave me a courtesy call to inform me that the remix to Dom Perignon was now coming out as LL’s new single thanks to Steve. That song was called Who Do You Love and features Bad Boy recording artists Total. On that song he even adlibs the words Rock On a few times. Funny thing is, Rock On was the name of another song on that unreleased body of work. After meeting LL a year later I thought he was a decent brother & we discussed it. When it comes to business you have to leave that gangsta shyt outside and do business. Diddy is a paper gangsta. The only gangsta that won’t go to jail unless he fails to pay his taxes.

  • thebookmachinespI was signed to Uptown MCA at the time & The President Andre Harrell was the ultimate mentor and mainly because he was always excited about something. When it came to recording a track with Tupac I had mixed feelings about it because of all that had transpired with the rape case. My acting manager Jimmy went behind my back and took a meeting with Andre. Basically he told him that PAC wanted to record with me and I was reluctant to do so. Not completely true. Andre saw immediate dollar signs and asked if he could persuade PAC to do his television show New York Undercover. I guess you guys understand why Andre Harrell was even present in a Little Shawn recording session. Another piece of the puzzle that you’ve never heard was the fact that Bryce from Groove Theory fame was the producer that did the track. You see regardless to what has been injected into your minds all of these years, people like Andre and Puffy were never up to anything negative that night or any night thereafter. They’ve never been street people or were ever receptive of that gangsta behavior being around them. It made them uncomfortable. As a matter of fact, Andre used to always tell me, Don’t fukk the money up!!!!
