Saying "in their prime" completely discounts the shifting tides of the music industry. "In their primes", NY was the center of hip-hop. Then that shifted toward ATL (where Diddy then had a property), then Miami (where Diddy then had a property), and now with all these labels and distributors merging and consolidating, hip-hop's HQ is now the same place where it's been for pop, TV, and movies. Hollywood. Which is why they're out there now. If you're an up and coming artist, you cannot afford to be a cross-country flight away from an opportunity.
