A funeral for slain rapper Lionel Pickens AKA Chinx was held in New York on Tuesday amid a large police presence.
Friends, family and fans showed up en masse to Greater Allen A.M.E Cathedral in Queens to bid their final farewells to the 31-year-old after he was shot dead in a drive-by shooting May 17.
Outside the cathedral, a group of NYPD officers were on hand to ensure something similar didn't happen to any mourners.
One of those mourners was Pickens' cousin Norman Seabrook, who also happens to head up the Correction Officers' union.
He addressed the police presence as he spoke following the service, reports the
New York Daily News, and applauded the boys in blue.
'Violence has hit home,' he said. 'He's a kid who turned his life around and he gets assassinated. The police are doing a good job. Let's hope they catch somebody.'
Thus far, police have named no motive and have no suspect in the shooting, which also left Pickens' passenger injured.
Authorities say Pickens was driving on Queens Boulevard around 4am when another car passed and shot at the Porsche Panamera 4 several times, striking both Chinx and his 27-year-old passenger.
