Drake himself admitted that one of his biggest hits wasn’t a rap song and didn’t understand why he got a rap award for it.

why would you consider an R&B song, or a pop song, in determining whether an artist belongs on “rap’s” Mount Rushmore?

That is just one song. The Fugees biggest hit features no rap verses whatsoever, but The Score is still one of the biggest rap albums ever and is acknowledged as a classic. A lot of people hold Lauryn Hill in high regard as a lyricist and overall MC even though she sang a lot.

Future stays more on the conscious than Cole or Kendrick, wouldn't be too mad if he was over both

All of this is definitely true for Drake. But he also has a lot of huge hits this decade that are R&B and/or pop. I don’t know how you would separate out just his rap shyt and evaluate that. Hes never even dropped a straight rap album. He’s a hybrid artist.

I’ve never listened to a Future album, but from what I’ve heard, it always sounds like he’s singing to me. Post some of his classics where he’s straight rapping and blacked out with the bars.
I’m not saying ALL Drake did was put out rap songs, but he became known as a rapper and has plenty of rap songs that ran the decade..

Ehh, future doesn’t sing 75% of the time, breh does use effects on his rapping tho, and knowing how you post up at the purist end of the spectrum of rap, I’m gonna say most listeners don’t consider him singing, it’s clear when he’s singing.

Hate threads like this, the 3 given should give you context clues that part of the criteria is commercial/mainstream success. Y’all in here talking Gibbs, nipsey, griselda, pusha t, mozzy :mjlol: stop

even arguing second tier guys like meek and big sean makes sense. nikkas who survive cuz streaming/the internet exists aren’t on this.

now you wanna make your own personal top 4 - do you. Nip would make my personal list, but he ain’t on this one.

It’s def Nicki over Future. Who would be headlining a tour between the two. Who has more hits on the charts, more standout features, more records sold, who more reliant on a Drake feature.

Nicki made it cool for female rappers to rap again. She opened up the lane for them to rap and do pop hits. So she has the influence.

Drake
Kendrick
Cole
Nicki

Future
Nicki ain’t make it cool for females to rap again. She came with new blueprint of what females rappers should look like for labels to cash in/wanna invest in them - which has not been a good thing - but women were rapping before during and after her run, they just ain’t have the sex appeal she came with.

I agree with all of this. But if we start talking Mount Rushmore of rap, you gotta hold it against artists who spent a good chunk of their career not rapping.

Drake has never not been a rapper though. All of his albums are predominantly rap. I don't really look at a Mt. Rushmore as a representative of best, as much as it is important. If we look at the most important rap artists of the last decade, there's no way that Drake isn't on it.

I agree with the three they got on there. The fourth spot is up for grabs between Nicki and Future. I give it to Nicki tho. She’s a household name and has clearly influenced every female rapper in the mainstream right now

You could make a strong argument for Migos as well

You can’t have a 2010s with

Drake
Future
Kendrick
Cole
Nicki
Migos

they all belong on there
