"When I went to school, I always fell asleep
but I was out like a mugg when my pager beeped.
My teacher asked me 'can't it wait?'
I said 'naw, I got to put some more icing on my cake...'"
I ain't never graduated, i ain't got no cap and gown
But the girls in my class who were smart enough to pass
Be at all my fukking parties, grabbing money off the ground
Some of these lyrics are ignorant but a lot of them are just on that Carter G. Woodson wave where they're pointing out that a lot of the government schools in Black neighborhoods aren't serving the Black community and setting everyone up for failure.
Kids should be encouraged to do their best in school because the options are so limited but it ain't no joke that most schools in Black neighborhoods ain't setting them up for success at all. There need to be some MAJOR changes made to how we educate our young people, American education is a problem across the board but Black communities suffer the most for it. (Well, Natives too if we keeping it 100.)
