From best to worst I'd say -

Metal Gear Solid - Classic
Metal Gear Solid 3 - Classic
Metal Gear Solid 2 - Great, although I'm still mad about having to play as Raiden
Metal Gear Solid 4 - Good, but they went a little overboard with the cutscenes and I wasn't big on the Old Snake thing
Metal Gear Solid 5 - Good gameplay, very mid story by MGS standards though

I might have a little nostalgia bias for MGS 1 since it blew my mind when I was in middle school. Really need to go back and finish MGS 5, I might move it up.

Haven't played any of the portable games, but I've heard Peace Walker was good. Haven't played the NES games either.

Metal Gear Solid 1.
Snake Eater.
everything else made by Kojima can be decided with a dice game.
Everything not made by Kojima can be decided by a coin toss, they all unfinished basua wrapped in a Kojima created skeleton.

  1. MGS1-Classic love the atmosphere and characters
  2. MGS3-Kojima’s magnum opus but my nostalgia for MGS1. Won’t let me put MGS3 above it.
  3. MG2 Solid Snake-Underrated game that’s basically MGS1’s A Link To The Past.
  4. MGS2-Classic but The Big Shell is boring to navigate, and the game peaked in the Tanker mission.
  5. MGS4-MGS 4 and 5 are interchangeable lol. MGS4 had more memorable moments, even with the terrible story than MGS5. But 5’s gameplay and freedom shyts all over MGS4’s. At least MGS4 felt like a MGS game.
  6. MGS5-Best gameplay of the series ruined by a boring story, characters, and open world.
  7. MGS Peace Walker-Cool game with a great ost and better gameplay than Portable Ops.
  8. MGS Portable Ops-Cool game with a great ost.
  9. MG-Aged poorly

I've always played around with the idea of going back and playing MG2: Solid Snake :ehh: sounds like it might be worth it

Metal Gear Solid, the others don't even exist for me.

I'd love to see a high fidelity remake/remaster, I'd donate some PTO to it

Folks saying MGS3….girl, I guess?

That was when the weirdness just started to become too much for me.

Haven’t fukked with the series since then.

Only reviewing the canon games:

MGS2
MGS3
MGS1
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
MGS4
MGSV
Metal Gear (1987)

Haven't finished Peace Walker so I won't put it on the list.
