Naw, that's called a converter box...

ie stealing cable, descramble the stations.

Hood heads know if you came up on one of these :win:

That was until Time Warner started stalking mofos:yeshrug:

These were more popular than the "black box" around where I live. EVERYONE around my way had one. WWE/WCW PPV Sundays, NFL gamedays, boxing matches, etc always led to a packed house at my uncles.

However, DirecTV put a stop to all that on "Black Sunday". A bunch of bootleg cards were fried by DirecTV a week or two before the 2001 Super Bowl. A lot of people were :sadbron: once they lost their free TV

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_decryption

Satellite companies (and cable once it moved to digital) use "encryption" to combat stuff like the hotbox. And a Access Card is needed to view encrypted programming.

The cards that installers tell you NOT to take out of the receivers tell your box what you have access to watch, report PPV/On Demand purchases, etc.

Well once hackers compromised the cards and gained access to everything you could watch on DirecTV/Dish Network, a cat and mouse game commenced.

That particular card and the ones before it aren't in use by DirecTV anymore. They won't even activate an old receiver with that card

I'm sure they won't, all that money they watched walk out the door.
It never failed. My dad had to take the box down every three months because TW kept noising around our house.

He just refused to pay for cable. We had fights, porn, movies, everything with that converter box:dj2:

Dish Network Pirate TV

Dish Network put these channels up during card swaps. Only bootleg receivers saw these as legit Dish equipment would refuse the channel feed and normal customers wouldnt see it. funny thing is that the card discussed in the first video was hacked halfway through the card swap :krs: it took another card swap to rid Dish of the bootleg headaches

DirecTV on the other hand, scared everyone from bootlegging cause they were taking people to court AND winning. DirecTV has been piracy free since 2005ish.
