Of course cacs and media love Pop and would never criticize him but game passed him by like it did PJax a while ago. He don't even like embracin 3s even though it somethin you gotta do now. Pop shouldn't coach again he had his run but he hasn't been a top coach for a long time now

Mitch has done a good job

But this Spurs team is better than last year. Their record would be similar with Pop back on the bench.

And Pop has been having his assistants like Mitch take on bigger roles regardless.

San Antonio had the youngest roster in the league the last couple years. There’s a lot of teaching involved.

The thing with Chet when he returns is he doesn't need to be a shot creator per se... The question will be how will teams defend The IHart PnR with Chet in the dunker spot. IHart has changed their culture a bit, in his sorta Draymond Green role as the lowkey engine to their offense. PnRs, fake handoffs, handoff screens, offball screens leading to handoff screens, etc

Last year, Chet would be the primary pnr guy... but one dimensional, which is fine but after rolling would then shy away from establishing deep post position.. or his teammates would just swing the ball to the other side before he got a chance. Reminded me of how DLo and some of those Laker role players would treat AD a couple years back; AD can iso score but is optimized as a swing swing mfer beneficiary (i.e. PnR action that results in working the ball around for a lob pass or deep post entry feed/sealed off defender). But if your teammates are bird brains and your big is a passive personality, they'll never look for the play to develop. That was OKC last year outside of SGA.

Magic keep winning games without Suggs, Banchero and Wagner. They’re holding the fourth seed in the east right now.

Why? Because of rebounding, aggressive pressure on the ball carrier, smart shooting, attention to details, smart ball movement/passing, strong focus on going to the rim and drawing fouls, good coaching, hard work and defense. Fundamentals. They Keep it simple and that’s why they’re winning with 3 regular starters and 3 bench players out because of injuries. When your best scoring players are out, you have to run a smart, simple and unselfish offensive system. Dont reinvent the wheel, go back to the basics and keep your team focused on the tried, tested and true things that always help teams win.
