Grimes cheats off Sexton because he wanted to show a double on Clarkson, leaving Sexton open; Luka sees that Sexton is left open and is in two minds on who he should be defending.

Grimes isn't defending anyone when Collins catches the ball in the paint -

Man Mavs really are built like the old Harden Rockets. They even play Luka inthe same position defensively as Harden. Luka not as good or aware with the switch defense though

They hadn't been doubling Clarkson the entire so why would they start now… looks like Grimes moves up to cheat the passing lane, Utah guards had been struggling the entire 4th to beat the Dallas perimeter defenders one on one . Luka just doesn’t look active or aware on defense. look where he’s facing.

You either hard double Clarkson or just stay on your man.

It was a completely unnecessary action - Grimes should've just stuck to Sexton like glue.

Given the way they're configured on the court, it looks like it was intentional. Neither Luka nor Grimes are playing M2M, they're just situated in the vicinity to cover those areas of the floor. It's either Grimes and Luka are in the wrong positions, or Lively was in the wrong position. It looks like to me Lively was supposed to stop Collins, after Luka was focused on Sexton, after Grimes was playing up to get Clarkson to bite.

I don't know why they all just didn't stay on their man. Either it's smart dumb coaching or dumb players (or a bit of both).
