That's how they grade it now. When a player with high expectations coming in gets to the next level (All-Star Game/All-NBA) they give them the upper hand in MIP votes.

Started with Ja, but with him his ppg went up by like 7. Coby improved in every category and had a 10 point scoring increase compared to Maxey's 5.It’s literally just the Best First Time All Star award now
for most of the season the thunder have been just below +1 in net rating when shai is off the floor. that rating has risen to +5.2. it may be skewed a bit by the thunder blowing out portland and philly by a combined 51pts when shai sat out this month, but its getting harder to doubt this okc team even with their relative youth.
Teams that win this much in the Regular season usually win the title. There are exceptions like the 73 win Warriors or that Dirk team that got upset by GS
but I feel some people are skeptical because OKC is still young and they haven't done it before, but we could just be seeing natural progression towards a champion
YR1 24 wins lottery

the grizzlies are in real danger of falling into the play-in. a lot of ppl were critical of them not making a win now move at the deadline. at the time i didnt agree because i wanted to see if wells and jackson would both step up and while that hasnt happened, but the biggest mistake was trading marcus smart. even though hes been injured much of the season and not playing his best ball he was a positive when he was on the court and you traded a positive and got back nothing that can help you right now.
obviously injuries are their biggest issue with morant missing a bunch of games and clarke now out for the season but smart at least gave them so cover and they probably wouldnt be at risk of falling past 5 with him still around.
