You ain't getting away from giving them a high pick, the Lakers wont be good for a few years and the protection drops after next season.

And even if you do keep it, you're not going to be good enough by 2018 to avoid being in the lottery, rebuilds from the ground up don't happen that fast especially not when you only have 1 player with high potential in Russell. The FA market is too big of a gamble and as we've seen, the high impact players pick teams already built to compete.
