You are comparing Scottie to Klay though, you're acting as though Meek Mills and levels don't exist. There are obviously varying levels to second option status, I mean Kobe was a second option to Shaq at one point, are he and Klay on the same tier just because they're playing with someone better. He'd be Mitch Richmond if he had his own team breh, nice numbers but not winning a thing.

Also, Klay needs to play well in the playoffs as well, dude has been the epitome of :ld: so far when the games have mattered.
:ehh:

@Malta let me ask you this then

replace Steph with any of the following and you dont think the Warriors would be a very good team, a possible title contender?

Conley, Lowry, Teague, Bledsoe

I think Curry is a phenomenal ultra rare talent and the droppoff between him and those guys is pretty large in my eyes, the only other PGs in his lane are Russ and The Dribbler.

He's the MVP in my opinion and just replacing him with guys who play the same position but differently wouldn't cut it. You replace any of those guys with Curry and their teams get better while the Warriors get worse with them in his place.

Well I know all that, my point is you put Conley, Lowry, Teague on that team instead of Steph and they are still a very, very good team

A team that would feature Klay as their best player too

They arent winning 66-68 games, but probably are still contending in the West

The Grizz win the title with Curry, imagine the spacing for the Hawks with him :merchant:

Nah, the Warriors basically become Raptors/Wiz West with any of those guys in place of Curry, and the Raptors/Wiz in the West aren't a very good team. It would be like thinking you can replace LeBron with Deng :francis:

Chicago
Scottie was arguably the second best player in the league during his best years, and we also saw him lead a team to 55 wins :francis:

Klay is a good player, but lets not get a head of ourselves here, if he were a featured player that squad would be going nowhere.
sort of like a defensive minded kevin martin

Its less about what Curry and his team would be doing

Im just saying Klay would be the best player on that Dubs team and they would still be very, very good

I don't think they'd be that good, you have to take into account the sheer threat of Curry's shooting and how that plays into how the team operates. You remove that threat and it's not going to be the same, those other PGs are good players but none of them are great or on the level of Curry.

The Warriors are not still contenders if you swapped Curry with a Mike Conley or Jeff Teague. Could they still make the playoffs? Possibly. Contend for a title though? Nah.

Like @Malta alluded to, it's like replacing LeBron or KD with a Gordon Hayward or Kawhi Leonard. Sure Hayward & Kawhi are both pretty good players, but it's still a significant dropoff.

I really doubt that Klay could be the featured player with a team built around him and have it be successful :manny:

That's kinda how i feel about Kawhi Leonard. I know he's pegged as the future for the Spurs and its obvious the impact he has as an elite defender and hustle player... but his ball handling and overall play making/offensive ability doesn't strike me as a franchise guy. Just a very good if not great piece to have on any team trying to win.

It seems people are really under estimating the affect Steph's shooting has on the Warriors offense. The fact that he still puts up the points he does with the amount of attention he draws is ridiculous. He has to get his shots off with the smallest of windows. That's what gives the Draymonds and Harrison Barnes the room to operate the way they do. That's not easily replaced with just any good guard because NOBODY is close to the shooting threat Steph is with and without the ball.

And it's funny because I remember at the time people were saying it was gonna be one of the worst ever, but it's probably been the 2nd best draft of the last 10 years behind 2008
