NEW YORK (AP) -- LeBron James is the early vote-getter for the NBA All-Star game, edging Kevin Durant.

The Miami Heat star has 609,336 votes, while the Oklahoma City's Durant trails by about 2,000 votes in the first returns announced by the league on Thursday.

The Lakers' Kobe Bryant (501,215) and the Clippers' Chris Paul (393,313) pace the Western Conference backcourt players. The Heat's Dwyane Wade (396,279) is the East's top vote-getter in the backcourt, followed by the Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving (365,712).

Paul George of the Indiana Pacers (489,335) and the New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony (424,211) are next in the Eastern Conference.

The Rockets' Dwight Howard (295,120) and the Clippers' Blake Griffin (292,925) lead the West frontcourt.

The All-Star game will be held in New Orleans Arena on Feb. 16.

Word is that the Cavs' preference remains upgrading at small forward -- with Chicago's Luol Deng at the top of Cleveland's list -- rather than bringing in a center.
As the Knicks‘ front office works with Dolan to regroup on the Lowry front, the Nets are gaining traction as a possible destination for the Raptors‘ point guard, tweets Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

"We all read HoopsHype," Kyle Lowry admitted, said he does his best to tune out the rumours, just turned his phone off and went to bed yesterday.

"If you look at the Western Conference, the quality so high. The teams are bunched up right there. We can beat each other every given night. It's not like the Eastern Conference, where you just roll through," said Dirk Nowitzki after a 95-93 loss to the Golden State Warriors.
"We got to compete every night [in the West], especially if you want to win on the road. You're going to be in a lot of close ones," Nowitzki said.

Lakers/Thunder tonight. Would be disappointed if Russell Westbrook doesn't go for at least 35.

We heard earlier that the Lakers have been listening to offers for Pau Gasol, in part because he and coach Mike D’Antoni aren’t seeing eye-to-eye, and D’Antoni’s remarks today likely didn’t help mend any fences. Responding to Pau’s recent comments about being frustrated by his role, D’Antoni said, “That’s a classic, ‘I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.’ Well, you don’t have trouble getting up to the paystub line. You know what you need to do to get your check. You know what to do. They will. They’ll figure it out.”
