None of it was realistic for the simple fact that Morey never tanked. He just stockpile assets via buy low and sell high. When u know how to draft, every goes a lot smoother. Morey knows you can't let asset to without getting anything in return. Minny is horrible at this. They trade away assets for nothin in return basically. and Minny has had assets. Jefferson, Derrick Williams, soon to be shabazz I bet. When u don't draft well and when u do don't give the talent showcase to build his value, what can u really complain about? That's not the owners fault.

Houston hasn't tanked since 2002.

Here's what youre missing though.

If they drafted well, why would they trade those pieces away when talent is so hard to come by?

And let's say they had this alluring collection of assets. That's not gonna make Dwight Howard wanna play for you. That's not gonna make it more appealing to wanna get moved there and stay there long term.

and it is the owner's fault because he's hiring these guys. He tried to hire a bunch of different people, but either their wives didn't wanna move and/or nobody wanted to work for Glen given the conditions he set (namely, he wanted McHale to decide for himself whether he should come back to coach). I wasn't even gonna use my team as an example of this because they run their operation in such a hokey fashion that it's a diss to other teams that have more foresight than they do.

Houston hasn't tanked since 2002. Correct. They've also won 1 playoff series in nearly 18 years. Where's the payoff?

Man it's a process. Dwight was the last of that process. U build a team to be attractive to get a dwight howard. Parsons was one of the pieces that attracted him along with harden.

And bringing up that one postseason win in 18 years is real low and unrealistic. It's a lot of circumstances that contributed to that.

JVG the analyst and JVG the coach are polar opposite personalities. I maintain that Adelman is a better coach. JVG was stuck in the 90's and overrated as a coach. Carrol Dawson and JVG just don't know show to put a team around tmac and Yao, mostly Yao. JVG traded gay for Battier. Iove Battier but Gaye was nba ready and we could've did some things. That wasn't buying low and seeking high. It was just stupidity. Gay was an asset and we completely fukked ourselves. JVG only wanted his guys. We brought in spannoulis from the Greek league and he never even gave him a shot. It's no mistake that Adelman had success in ways that JVG didn't. And I'm even a big fan of rick the ruler because he's just as stubborn as JVG. But he was a better fit for Houston at the time.

This seem short sighted to me. The to are goal is to win but there's also some consolation in just being able to contend. In having high expectations. At least to me.

That's impossible for some teams. It just is. Houston's not a hard sell. Flyover country is. It will always be easier to convince someone to leave an undesirable location to go somewhere more glamorous than it is for the reverse to occur. That and some people are just egomaniacs. Look at Love. LA. Chicago. NY. 2 of those teams SUCK. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to wonder why he wouldn't at least consider a team like New Orleans who would be a MAJOR threat if someone like him signed there.

My team contended for 8 years. All anyone could talk about was how KG should get the fukk outta here because we could only get to the first round. While I miss the first round now, I also remember that shyt getting very old, very fast. Fast forward to 2014 and I'd take the first round ass whoopings every year since I know realistically my team will never win a title. It's like a mid major making the NCAA Tournament. That's how I have to look at it.

Before Dwight, I dare u to name the last superstar or even a second/third tier that came here via free agency. Houston might not be Minnesota but this isn't a location that players have flocked to win.

Just got to take chances. Houston took a chance with Ron Artest. We didn't win but we contended.

I don't know man, you can't be scared to take a chance. That epitomized the JVG, Carroll Dawson years.

Realistically Minny really only serious contenders for 3 years and unfortunately that 3 years coincided with Phil's lakers so that no nothin u can really get mad at.
