Of course, in hindsight, it's not a soft track. But it is softer than everything on the album, and really does not fit with the vibe/theme of the album, outside of Wisdom Body - which also is out of place. However, RZA makes it work.
Those are the 2 songs are my least favorite on that album

Love early wu beats. I think it all went down hill when they worked with less samples.

I know part of it is due to the flood but i wonder if it also has to do with sample clearance
Too many mouths to feed. And if you notice, the samples they used, they reused several times because they had the rights from paying syl johnson.

Once they was a huge name and rich it wasnt so easy id assume. Then the keys worked they way in. Which is how we got here.

If anything i reapect how rzas low sample albums (forever , bobby digi, birth of a prince, even a better tomorrow even if it was high trash) all sound very different

Had to. Basically took hip-hop music out of a certain era production wise as a result. Beat makers being hella creative with having to create a dish from scratch is good, but we also miss out on seeing which ones could drum up something otherworldly with samples you could and couldn’t recognize

That and Fruityloops played a part
That was part of it for sure, but also meeting peers/idols like Quincy Jones (RIP) who (probably unintentionally) shamed RZA for not knowing music theory & relying so heavily on samples. That pushed him into studying music, which then stripped down the instinctual nature of his production.

Read his early interviews where RZA describes the ill music he's making as this "pulse" his ear understands and, later on, the "pulse" is gone b/x he's trying to replicate existing music practices....

Could've left him off and had Method Man do a verse instead of just the hook :patrice:

Nah, that wasn't gonna happen.

RZA said that the concept of the track came from Cappadonna, and he was the one that had the idea to do the ice cream flavors and all that. You can't have dude give you the whole idea and then not let him get busy on the track, lol. Him being on that joint got him a deal too and some buzz.

That's the whole "digital" thing.
