Logic and Big Boy discuss today’s generation’s hate on Eminem and more.

Logic recently dropped his brand new album “Vinyl Days“, and he now made a visit to Big BoyTV for a new interview with the legendary host. The two discuss several topics, including an upcoming tour with Wiz Khalifa, performing at The Grammy Awards, investing in crypto, receiving a letter from Congress for his song 1-800-273-8255, and more.

They also talked about today’s generation and how they hate Eminem and other OGs of Hip-Hop. “A couple of years ago, the internet was making fun of Eminem cause it was just a fun thing to do,” said Logic at around the 45-minute mark. “They were like ‘oh lets make fun of Eminem… he’s too lyrical-miracle’ like what? I’m like, I’m in bizarro world.”

Then Big Boy responds and says that Detroit would’ve been the biggest thing ever had he died in his prime. “It’s crazy cause we had this conversation and I said ‘man Eminem is crazy, how people come at Eminem?!’ And I remember Eminem just what the world felt like. The grasp he had and I tell people sometimes, not to take this wrong way, I say ‘you know what happened to Eminem bro? He lived. If Eminem had passed, you understand what I’m saying and I don’t clickbait or sh*t, none of that, if he had passed in so called ‘prime’ he would have been the biggest thing not only in genre but in the world but he lived and he became old school. And I don’t think he is sitting at home at every moment worried about this. Does he want a hit record? Probably. That’s Eminem. But also Eminem can come up and announce a tour tomorrow and it’s done.”

“I didn’t even know Eminem knew who I was when I met him a couple of years ago,” responds Logic. “He shouted me out on a record. And I was like ‘Oh my gosh, this is amazing.’ And the next day we are on a song together. He’s one of the illest dudes. He’s so nice and when I met him I was all nervous I was like ‘yo am I being weird?’ He was like ‘nah man, you’re cool.’ Then we talked about rap and I’m like ‘am I being weird now?’ he’s like ‘no, you are fine!’ And then we talked about some other sh*t and I was like ‘am I being weird?’ and he was like ‘Now you being weird.’”

Due to his skin tone, Eminem struggled to establish himself in the hip-hop and rap scenes. Eminem struggled to combat this stereotype since he is white. He was frequently viewed as superior and wealthy to many, and coming into the scene where the more disadvantaged you are from the start, the higher success you’ll have. Eminem’s rival rappers used every chance to disparage him as a rapper by using his race as an abuse.

Neck ties and boxing gloves.
you can say that about any big named rapper

They mentioned that other elder statesmen get hated on too.

I think that Hip Hop is old enough now where it's easy to hate on its legacy artists and sacred cows out of ignorance and lack of homework. It blows my mind on YouTube to see "blanks" hear "Insert song here" for the first time here reaction videos. Especially when people use the term "GOAT" and "legend" so casually those terms are rendered meaniless.

I'm sure Em prefers being alive but I was thinking about what would have happened if he died or retired after the 8 Mile OST. Some people's list would look alot closer to Busta's and Rakim's. Keep in mind, a lot people don't even have the same generic 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, and Jay entries. Plenty of people arent versed in Hip Hop outside of what's fed to them.

Other genres have gone through this. People expose themselves for what little they know of history but hopefully Hip Hop will find more venues and channels to educate the more modern listener. Its become a bit of a misconception.

I think the hating Em trend is overblown. Snoop made nice. Game is on a failing marketing campaign to drum up sales and said Em was still Top Ten even though he thinks hes overrated. That's Game for you. And they're vets anyway.

The majority of the real hate I see is online and with the occasional young critic out to appease a certain demographic.

I just felt he was overrated and too MTV for my liking. But I cannot deny the talent is there. 8 Mile (the movie) is a certified classic. But the problem with Em is his music is just tooo dated. Like if you listen to it, it's like going back to a time capsule of the year '99/'00 for some people I get that's cool, but for me, it kinda doesn't make it timeless like it could've been. Infinite is an example of a timeless album, and it's fun to listen to. SSLP/MMLP is too flippant with the violence and kill your mom shyt that white people get a hard on over

Eminem is hated more today because back then people got caught up in the hype surrounding the new White hope and because the entire industry machine behind him was so powerful you looked out of place if you said Eminem was overrated.
Top 40 and cac radio rock stations that never play rap were playing him, and this is what opened my eyes to the bullshyt.

Then he’s gone for like 4 years (he made an appearance on bet awards 06 touch it remix I went crazy)

Relapse was ok some good beats and I liked that beautiful song

After that it’s really hard to point out highlights thank god jay dissed nas I can only imagine if nas gave us 20 years of nastardamus level albums

Nah. He's hated because he fukked his discography with two decades of mild overhyped albums.

If Em retired after the Eminem Show or even Encore, he would've been in the top 5 DOA with no debate.

And a lot of Em music from his golden era aged bad. Who wanna listen to the "real slim shady today" or "without me"?

Em is without a doubt a an extremely talented rapper but he made some questionable choices throughout his career.

Exactly.

Back then we didn't have social media to promote and discuss hip hop at a large scale, so it was really either what your inner circle listens to or what is being pushed on TV and radio by these major labels - and that consisted of a lot of Em, since labels understood he resonates with white people cause he's a white rapper rapping about pop culture.

I think the reason why Em has been hated on more and more over the years is a combination of two things, his garbage music, and the novelty wearing off. Em benefitted significantly from the novelty of being a white rapper signed to West Coast legend Dr. Dre, and being tight with Snoop, 50 Cent, Xzibit, etc. People are beginning to realize he was never that good and he just had a lot of intangibles.

I really think if we had social media back then in 99-02, all those old Em hits like My Name Is, Without Me, etc would not have been hits. People would've clowned that corny shyt off rip.

eh...I think they'd still be hits. trash ass singles from other artists today are big hits with social media.

if anything those em singles might be bigger if SM was around back then. people might meme them and shyt.
