Why are Hopkins and Jackson saying since Kovalev is foreign he doesn't understand the connotation of depicting a Black man as an ape, European soccer fans have been chanting monkey sounds and throwing bananas at Black players for ages, they know the meaning and that that boolshyt is racist. That ain't unique to America at all.
True. To be fair though, we're talking about Russia in this instant, Eurasia, and that region has always been viewed as suspiciously "white". They're not Aryan, and their Black population pales in comparison to the Black populations in Europe. Africans, and, Afro-Americans are not that high on their radar. Case in point, Russia has the highest population of neo nazi skinheads in the world, and obviously white nationalist types are present. However, their xenophobia is expressed through anti-semitism and anti-Muslim sentiments and actions, and not the stereotypical depiction of Black Americans. Thats not to say they love us, but Black Americans arent high up on their radar, if even at all.
Now when we talk skins and nationalists, we're talking extremes. That said, if we're talking about the average Russian which I think we can all agree would be the umbrella Sergey Kovalev falls under, I'm thinking any bias they have against Black Americans is largely benign. Especially with what seems like another cold war brewing. Kovalev might be white, but he's still Russian, and not that far removed from being a n!gger himself in a white American's eyes, which I'm sure he and his team are all aware of, at least the cold war divide. Take that along with speaking of Ward admirably last night, and his praise of Hopkins, and I'd gamble he's not a st0rmfr0nt type. Naw, he's more on par with......Buffalo, NY, or Pennsylvania Democrats, and thats a nuanced depiction of racasim.
As far as Hopkins, he's older now, and come into some paper working for and not with Golden Boy. Heavy emphasis on working for GB so we're clear. He has to play the game. Thats not to say he isnt sincere either as his comments on Trinidad and Calzaghe sounded sincere. Plus, any talk on racism does include self hatred, which includes Black on Black violence. Does it play into white supremacist talking points? Of course. Is it still valid to discuss in the large scheme of things? I think so. Only beef I have when bringing up Black on Black crime is the half stepped approach Blacks take when doing so which invites accusations of c00ning. That said, Hopkins bringing up killing one another is both flawed and necessary IMO when it comes to these discussions.
