fukk the purists. Thats like saying the nikka in school who always only aces math is better than the dude who aces every school subject including math.

Cant nobody fukk with Kellz

Dangelo plays more instruments. That’s what I’m saying.

It’s kinda like comparing MJ and prince.

seems like a Drake vs Kendrick comparison where hits/popularity (accessibility) vs artistic depth (musicianship)

As per usual with threads like this fans of both artists are going out of their way to discredit the other

They're both musical geniuses but it's hard to compare them because they have different artistic goals. Kellz is a versatile hitmaker who was able to constantly adapt with the changing R&B landscape and cater his songwriting to whoever he was working with. That takes a tremendous amount of talent to be relevant for as long as Kellz has been and in his prime (I'd say mid-90s to early 00s) he was a master at combining spirituality and sexuality similarly to what Prince and Marvin Gaye did

D'Angelo is a craftsman in the studio and one of the best lyricists in all of music (look up the lyrics to the song Charade, pure genius) He's also got that immersive music that just hits your soul and really resonates with you if you take the time to let it all in.

Kellz having a much more vast musical output than D'Angelo both helps him and hurts him. It's allowed Kellz to be more relevant in the public eye and much more of a cultural force but with the sheer amount of work Kellz has put out it's also made him more vulnerable to releasing some subpar efforts, especially in the later part of his career.

Tough for me to choose between the two of them as it depends on what mood I'm in. Kellz is much easier to throw on and vibe to whereas with D'Angelo I need to be in a certain mood. But, D'Angelo's work has stayed with me more and Brown Sugar is my favorite R&B album of all time. So I'll give the slight edge to him.

I saw a few posts arguing which one of them is more similar to Prince. They're both similar to Prince but in different ways.

Like Prince, Kellz has a huge catalog, was a prolific songwriter for other artists and also combined spirituality with sexuality

And also like Prince, D'Angelo was extremely experimental to the point where he could be alienating to mainstream listeners, used heavy metaphors in his songwriting and while he wasn't as literal with his mixing of religion and sex as Kellz was, his singing was so passionate that often his songs came across as both spiritual and sexual at the same damn time.
