rip to one of my sheroes who played a huge part in my appreciation for a strong African queen. my biggest regret when meeting my inspiration is not getting a picture taken, but i had the beautiful honor of meeting queen mother Winnie and nelson Mandela when he was release from prison and it was off the hook. shout out to harry Belanfonte for even making it happen. it clearly was one of the high-lite of the 90's for me.

She was the woman they didn't want Mandela to be with, because she was too fiery. She wasn't about that peaceful kumbaya shyt, so they brought Grace Machel over for Mandela to be with while President.

So for that I salute Queen Winnie. Because even Grace could tell, this was a woman with personality. Enough for Grace to publicly state that Mandela was "their husband". As in, a man they shared.

Rest in Power Winnie, I know you're at peace right now.

Judging by her Twitter mentions, it looks like she died a REAL ONE cause cacs are still hating her. A whole lot of em calling her a "terrorist". All that lets me know is she never sold out.
