Peace and well wishes to the brother.

The first NBA player I can remember to have fly ass graphics cut into his head. I met him several times, always cool, always real.

I used to sell appliances at Best Buy in Lansing, IL, he had a basketball camp in Dolton which is only a few miles away. One time he came in to buy a refrigerator and this kid that might have been 6 years old walked over, with his dad about 25 ft behind him, and asked him for an autograph. Mason asked the kid if that was his dad behind him and the kid said yes. Then he asked the kid if he knew who he was and kid sheepishly shook his no. He told the kid no on the autograph and as we were finishing the transaction he sort of explained to me why he did that. He said, "That dude's gonna say I'mma a$$hole(sic) because I didn't sign his autograph, but he didn't have the balls to come ask me for it. How you send your kid on a mission for you." We kinda laughed and moved on. I was one of the several interactions I had. I appreciated it. He knew he had some celebrity and didn't seem like it got the best of him.

He was just a cool ass dude from my perspective.

Peace to the big homie.
