the definition of being b-list :ld:

almost every artist has a group of fans that love them, doesn't make everyone a-list or great

If you want to talk tier, he's not Legacy act r&b, not as big as R.kelly, but higher than an Avant or even a Dave Hollister. He's had a lasting career from the early 90's and was still pretty relevant up until the late 2000's. Very few male r&b acts were able to have that kind of run. If you know who then tell me.

Joe was a great artist. One of the best discographies of his era. Hate the word underrated but it might fit here. Joe had a great run.

On a side note. Avant dropped one of the best r&b albums of the past year with his last album.

And? A lot of b list rappers Rnb singers better than those with popularity.

Joe in the 90’s all the way to about 2001 wasn’t even b list for me, he was in a small group of acclaimed Rnb singers Donell Jones Maxwell R Kelly are two who form part of this group, in terms of solely Rnb/soul solo acts he was very much up there.

He was b list. He was never on the same plane as r kelly or Maxwell. Not sure why y’all are being so offended by this. B list doesn’t mean they didn’t have good music or long careers, means they were less impactful and less popular than a-list

Crispness
A-list talent with B or C list popularity.

One of my favorites

Faded Pictures with Case was my shyt.

Agree.

Joe should be R.Kelly status (and probably isn’t because of R.Kelly, but that’s another topic).
He is one of the guys in that tier between the all time greats and the regular dudes.

All That I Am is a 5-mic R&B classic, My Name Is Joe is close.

I think what hurts him the most is his peak was really during the Club Era, and he didn’t make
as many club bangers as everybody else around him. However - what helps him was that he was
one of the last folks making Traditional R&B while the R&B Game was dying around him.

I made a thread with a Versuz poll some time ago matching him up against Ginuwine.
I think that’s fair. He’s in that class with Ginuwine, Tyrese, and dudes like that.

Sidebar: I always thought him and Chico DeBarge shoulda did a concept album. They had some
bangin’ collabos.
