Except it's not boring as fukk which is quintessential Nolan post-TDK. :lolbron:

Either way it's Memento or The Prestige with The Prestige winning for me because it doesn't lose any value on replay whereas Memento is a little too reliable on its twist.
Prestige relies on its twist more than Memento in many ways. Prestige however is actually when I think about it, more quintessential because it's a bloated movie. Multiple twists and turns, back and forth, non linear. You don't know what the fukks going on.

So yes it's Memento the bloated version. Because both movies do the exact same thing.

And every movie Nolan made after the prestige took on that same kind of lets not stop here let's go even way the fukk over there. :whoo:

That's how you get inception and dude in the bookshelf. :francis:

Doesn’t work for me. Boring as hell with no actual characters to speak of and the most on the nose dialogue. Technically it’s great of course. But I want more from my movies than just to look pretty and be technically sound.
I been curious about dunkirk for a minute. Everyone keeps saying it's slow and it's hard to sit through a second time, the visuals however are top notch. I want to see how it looks on my TV.

Dunkirk feels like it was intended as a 60s/70s era auteur film about the bleakness of war, but somehow is an empty exercise void of atmosphere and heart. As a result it has no cinematic value whatsoever, basically ending up as a very expensive and very nice looking BBC-approved educational movie about the war. Which given the movie's PG-13 rating, wouldn't surprise me if that's what Nolan wanted.

Wow, thats harsh. I thought the movie was dope, It didn't need to be an emotional story to be worthwhile. It was like a pure overview of the event with amazing visuals. Its very different to his other movies which are very talky with quite involved storylines.

Speaking of which, Inception is probably his best known film outside of Batman and its the most 'Nolan' thing he's done. He's a frustrating director, even a movie as inspired and visually inventive as that is full of plot holes and awkward dialogue. The Prestige is probably his best all around movie in as much as its not overly ambitious but is very well executed with an enjoyable story. Like I enjoy 'Interstellar' a lot, but there's a lot of goofy shyt in that film.

Its either Dark Knight or Momento.

And when you lay out all of his films like this...rather overrated IMO.

All good choices. @FlyRy and @wire28 get in here and make your difficult choices
Went with inception.
Close second to the prestige.

Honestly don’t see how momento is quintessential Nolan :manny:

If you were to have someone watch one of them to get an idea of what other Nolan films are like, inception would be the closest.

Inception offers the scale, ambiguity, ensemble and intricacy that exist with the majority of his catalogue.

My nikka:myman:

That’s why I said inception. It feels the most Nolan of Nolan movies. You watch that and pretty much know everything you need to know about him. The look, the characters, the themes, the music, the scope, the ideas. All him

Lol just edited my post and pretty much said the same.

Not knocking memento, but it just doesn’t fit the majority of his filmography. He’s had more movies similar to inception versus memento.

The boredom. The utter lack of suspense. The barrage of expository dialogue. Definitely Inception.

Following is an essential movie, to see his progress and evolution as a director, as well as a smaller and more grounded movie, than his more wildly ambitious and bloated epics, he would become partial to.
