Pandemic killed any chance this app had

As a mobile only service, once everyone went inside of course they were choosing their big screens over their phones.

This was supposed to be something to do while you ride the train, uber or are in a waiting room.

The content was too short. A lot of people don’t want to watch 10 minute shows and movies

Plus they weren’t going to be able to lure a decent amount of paying subscribers without providing popular tv shows or movies
This. I watched #FreeRayshawn on my television, and the episodes were way too short.
I get that the service was tailored to commuters, but the at home experience was pretty bad.

shyt never stood a chance

What they should’ve did was copied the YouTube model and make the service free and have ads

then people can pay for the ad free premium subscription if they want

putting everything behind a paywall was a huge mistake

even before the pandemic i dont feel like tons of people were watching content on their phones. a youtube video here and there but not keeping up with a series necessarily. i see people doing it but not on a wide scale. i def never watch anything on my phone unless it's a quick youtube video explaining something usually. Something like Quibi never had a chance in my world before or after the pandemic.

damn that sucks. I thought it was a decent idea. To have short films with legit production and actors. But oh well. And you could have simply chromecast this stuff onto your tv for everybody saying they not watching on their phones.

Came out during corona where everyone stayed home. One year earlier and they would succeed

Roku Acquires Quibi Shows, Will Stream More Than 75 for Free - Variety

Roku snapped up the rights to the majority of Quibi’s multimillion-dollar portfolio original programming — more than 75 shows in all — and will make them available free to stream in 2021 on the Roku Channel.

Following Quibi’s decision last October to shut down after failing to attract a sustainable base of subscribers, Roku acquired Quibi Holdings LLC, the company that holds all of Quibi’s content distribution rights.

Financial terms of the pact were not disclosed. A source familiar with the agreement said Roku is paying “significantly” less than $100 million for the Quibi library, confirming an earlier Wall Street Journal report. Rob Holmes, Roku’s VP of programming, said in an interview, “We do think this deal represents a great value.”

I love Roku, man...they are a smart, efficient, quality company that's only continuing to rise.
