Ignorant people say ignorant things...use their lack of knowledge as an opportunity to educate them...too many of us have been brainwashed to believe we aren't beautiful...and if we show a hint of being attractive some assume it must be from being mixed...its unfortunate....

...so you're saying we should assume mixed folks and non-blacks should be the only ones showing genuine confidence?...if regular black chiks do, then they are putting up a front? :comeon:

Not sure where you got that from...

I can't even count how many times I've been told "You're pretty for a black chick" or "You can't be all black, you don't look it! You gotta be mixed" :childplease:

Funny enough, I've heard this almost exclusively from black men, so my question to the ladies is, have you encountered this? And for the fellas, why say ignorance like this? What do you hope to accomplish?

this sh1t is offensive, an insult really.

I been called that out. Then if you ask a woman if she's mixed she takes it as a compliment. I think the "you're pretty for a black chick" has to do with media. Media doesn't promote attractive dark skinned women. They promote the mammy. The overweight asexual woman who is always in her 40s for some reason. Meanwhile mixed women are promoted so they grow up trying to live up to that positive stereotype.

I'll finish with this. Both black men and women see femininity in light skin. "Prince/Drake/MJ are so pretty. Boris Kudjoe is so pretty." When women say light skinned men are pretty it will translate over to the men thinking light skinned women are pretty too.

I'm repeating myself but this is a repeated topic before the haters out there attack me.

It's all just a backhanded compliment. It's just like the whole "you're quite an articulate young man/woman" bullshyt.
Beauty doesn't need to be qualified by saying "for a ...". Beauty just is.

Very insightful, and I agree 100%.
