Not all kids require a beating to be disciplined. My has only caught one whipping in her lifetime from me, and that is when she intentionally lied to me about something. Hasn't been caught in a lie since.

I usually just threaten, I rarely have to whoop her ass. Lately I've noticed that if I threaten not to let her attend certain school activities she loves, that will do the trick. Overall she's a good kid.

my 4 year old is spoiled and can be the biggest brat.... she's use to getting her way and will throw the biggest tantrum ever, jumping, screaming, spitting... in most cases i let it slide but at times i gotta shut it down and just me running upon her is good enough, dont even have to pow her with an open hand like her mother does....

I never had to beat or whoop mine. Just spankings as kids. When they were younger I mostly just yell and either get tears or hyperventalation. I got a really deep, booming voice so it was effective. Now I give the calm, stern scolding and get the desired results. I got two girls though, so

And it only works until they no longer fear getting hit, then they have no reason to ever respect you and hold a lot of resentment.

I am for discipline. Take things away, that sort of thing.
The occasional spank if they're young, but generally I am against it.

Nah not really. I beat that ass for anything disrespectful. Any mouthing off, she will get a spanking. However, for discipline, I take away her gadgets. She has a ipod, a samsung tablet, a wifi for netflix and she will die if any of that stuff is not accessible to her. I'll make her color and draw or "read" her books for days in the row. It kills her, normally straightens her right out.
