Actually armed security costs a lot less than you'd think. If you're wearing 50k in jewelry, have 20k cash in your pocket, and head to toe in designer it's nothing. A lot of times they're only visiting LA for for a few days to a week. It's not much of a financial hit to have security for that time.
The reason they don't hire security is they don't want to be called soft. The irony is the same ones calling them names are the people who want to harm them. These so called gangsters are more scared of words or appearing soft than bullets.
