Labels don’t want to develop talent anymore.

For them, that takes too much time and money. They want to push someone out who already has a following, so that they can do less work and reap more of the benefits. It's like a hustle for the record companies now. The goal is to invest less, and pull out more bread.

I hear that.

To piggyback off another's work is bad.

However artists can develop themselves first. Alot of 80s and 90s artists did.

Even with my record label I'd expect value from an artist before I work with them. In terms of them having developed a following and having sales on Spotify etc

She can legit rap though. Unfortunately today mainstream women sell sex, Men sell substance abuse and gangsters. Why you acting like you don't know how this shyt works today?

People would realize this if they actually listened to/watched her interviews and freestyles instead of her albums. Juicy J and Pimp C are her biggest influences as far as rap, and Beyoncé as a performer. She’s very hip to really rapping, but it’s very apparent her label has her making music directly to her base, which is “Thot shyt” and “Big Ol Freak(s)”, and that’s pretty much her comfort zone.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
she was on the biggest track with Cardi B and has Rocknation behind her

perfect product for the right time
Actually Nicki pushed her on to be a star by hoppin on a track. Then Cardi. Damn. That’s 3 New York artists helping this southern girl get on. How about that? Lol. But I thought we hate on the south? Wait. Roc nation is ran by Jay Z. Another New York artists. Seems like she got her whole backing and star power by new York co-signs and footwork. Hmm. Interesting.

Folk really not understanding what it is.. Q been that nikka going on 3 decades

Tip is one of the GOATs when you really check the music he's been associated with over the course of his career.

Dude has songs with The Chemical Brothers, Apache, Esperanza Spalding, Roc Marci, Deee-Lite, Nas, D'Angelo, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey and Masters At Work. And that's before you take into account the multiple classic albums he produced for his own group and the fact that he discovered Dilla

He never seems to get brought up in these Verzuz talks but he's giving someone a long fukking night if they ever put him in one.

We are living in the age of entertainment mediocrity. Labels are getting worse progressively.

I’ve heard Meg freestyle and she can actually rap. I don’t care for her music at all but I would have been really intrigued to hear what she would have been making if Q-Tip was guiding her.
