I dont think the left-right spectrum is really fully modern anymore, with the modern corporate state.

I would say MSNBC is the authoritarian left(appeals to people who want to do the right thing/altruism), Fox is the authoritative right(appeals to fear, hate, and what people think traditional values are supposed to be).

While CNN's appeal to the the 'center' is just an attempt to bring in the 'unbiased' viewer who doesnt want to take a side, just wants to hear the news, maybe get his opinion from whichever shytty debater's side he wants.
