I DO know that J Cole appeals to people who aren't that intelligent. I feel confident in saying that right now. No one who ACTUALLY considers themselves an academic or learned or even someone who isn't that pretentious needs to listen to that ham-fisted attempted conscious bullshyt. Cole is already a living legend imo...Yeah he has never made a classic album but he has classic songs sprinkled throughout his catalogs. I think its a matter of time before he creates one. He started off shaky with Sideline Story and Born Sinner but I felt he found his groove on Forest Hill Drive.
If Friday Night Lights was his debut album like it was supposed to be...we'll be hailing as a classic album. His greatness shines the most on The Truly Yours series and mixtape projects. I think a 10-12 track, 40 min album with production with all the hottest producers would be great for him. He needs to try the illmatic formula instead of his own. Not saying his beats are bad but I feel like Cole has made it to a point to where he afford to take risks.
