He was drafted to Minnesota though and we know how much of a shyt hole franchise that was when he came. Coaching changes and then traded to Sacramento he never really had a fair shot to develop. Plus, he's 25 and I believe Fish took some of the development coaches from OKC with him to over here which could be a reason he's playing well. He just needed a chance and some belief in him.

From a structural standpoint, they were trying to get their shyt together. Rick Adelman simply didn't like him. That and Rick's mind was on another planet with what happened to his wife. Thus, he got his 1000 wins and walked away.

With that said, Derrick needed someone to tell him to give up the small forward dream, shut up, bulk up and live with being a PF.

The verdict is still out with me. He been giving us some solid games, but there's been defensive lapses that have me concerned. I don't know brehs, maybe it was seeing him basically being looked at as a draft bust and getting dumped around the league that has me wary of him. I hope NY is the right fit for him and he succeeds long term.

I always liked Derrick Williams' game, didn't think he got a fair shot in Minnesota & he showed flashes in Sacramento. Hopefully this is the perfect situation for him.
