Porzingis is looking comfortable. Seraphin looks good in the post. Cleanthony and Galloway bulked up a little. I see playoffs in our future.

Damn, this hyping me up. I feel like this'll be a good season for us, vibe is completely different going into the season compared to last year.

As the Knicks preseason approaches and these practice vids drop, I'm really getting hype about this squad. The practice vids have one standout factor that I think could be promising for our play; the entire team is running through the sets harder. That's a nice sign of confidence in what they're doing, they know where they're going...not walking on egg shells like JR Smith claimed to be even after months in the system. I'm not saying these cats are set to contend right away, but that was never gonna be the goal after last season's complete collapse. What we have now, is a team that's clearly on the come up and I'ma explain for all the lurking trolls why this team is set to exceed expectations rather than be another disappointment like last year.

Two Way Players: R-Lo, AA, Jerian Grant, Kristaps, Kyle O'Quinn...they all can make noise on both sides of the ball in different ways.

Defense: If you're sleeping on R-Lo and O'Quinn, just check their impact on scoring at the rim. If you didn't know about Galloway's defensive success, check the metrics. AA had a great rep for defense before he was tasked with carrying offenses and doing more elsewhere (an issue he won't have next to Melo). You can question KP, but he gave Okafor a battle at summer league and Okafor's footwork and post play is head and toes above many of the NBA bigs getting mintutes today. Jerian Grant is an aggressive defensive player as well. Melo at the four again, check the metrics he's good defensively there. This team will be able to have three qualities defenders on the floor at all times if not more. They have defenders for every spot on the floor now.

Flexibility: Grant and Galloway 1/2, AA 2/3, Melo and D-Will 3/4, KOQ and KP 4/5 ...this team can run a massive line-up at your for size mismatch or an athletic smaller line-up to take advantage of speed thanks to interchangeable pieces. For D-Fish, this could be really useful. He can force teams to pick their poison. You wanna attack us with size? We can match that or attack that size with speed. Same if you go small. If a coach forces Fish to adjust, he has the options to do so.

Post play: Last year the Knicks had one player with actual skill in the post, Melo. R-Lo and O'Quinn aren't the best post scorers, but their passing out of the post is strong. They can turn and pop from post ups or back a man down. If Seraphin is gonna be complimented for anything it's that he's a handful offensively from the post. Melo's still there as well. With these post presences, the team can run its sets more comfortably than ever.

Shooting: AA's raw FG% wasn't great last year, but look at his numbers from catch and shoot situations. As I mentioned, the bigs all have some range with KP's out all the way to three. Galloway and Grant have potential as shooters. If Calderon is healthy his major strength is that shooting touch he has. Even Vujacic (my least favorite Knick this season) has a strength of hitting jumpers and showed it yesterday in practice. Doubling Melo will be painful this year for the first time since J-Kidd and Rasheed Wallace were around.

Youth: The team has too many under 25 players to name. That means these guys are still developing their games and have plenty of time to improve even as the season goes along. Watching the youth develop will be great regardless of the team's record.

Lastly: This was the starting line-up for the Knicks in the last game of the season last year (Galloway, Hardaway, Lance Thomas, Jason Smith, Cole Aldrich)....Three of those players are completely gone, one player has almost no shot at breaking our rotation on opening day and the fifth gonna have to compete to be a starter with Calderon, Grant and AA...that means our opening day starters could be five players that are all superior to their counterparts from the end of last season. This is a completely different team and one with two way players, defenders, post play, shooting ability and a coach who has options to attack with...don't sleep on this roster, it doesn't have the star power of some from the past, but it's the most cohesive line-up that we've had in years. Melo's back...the guy who when healthy has led all but one team to the playoffs over more than a decade. That's an X-Factor surrounded by the right weapons for the system and the right guys to optimize his skills. As long as Melo stays healthy, I think we're gonna fight for a playoff berth and depending on our youth's development...we could be watching a much better team than anyone cares to admit.
